According to the International Tennis Federation (ITF), there are over 87 million tennis players worldwide, with significant followings in countries like the United States, China, India, Australia, France and Spain. Out of this 87 million players China has 22.5%, United states 20.7% and India 9.2%.

Training

The pathway to professional tennis often begins at a young age. Many top players start tennis coaching as early as five or six years old. Among several other challenges faced by beginners and upcoming youngsters are availability of quality coaches, rigorous training schedules and many young players struggle to balance their academic responsibilities with their training and competition schedules. Recreational and dedicated amateur players face similar problems. Working professionals often must balance time between their busy schedule and playing tennis. They can’t afford to spend lot of time for tennis coaching which goes on for months and years. Not all players have equal access to high-quality training facilities and tennis coaching. Efforts to provide opportunities for underprivileged players are important to ensure that talent can be developed regardless of background.

Player performance

Performance in tennis is multidimensional. Beneath the success of a tennis player is the Integration of Anthropometry, Physiology, Technical skills, Tactical skills, Psychology and many more important factors. Coaching and training process must develop each of the above components to make a successful player. Current tennis training methods mostly concentrate on technical skills, often neglecting fitness, tactical and psychological skills due to lack of knowledge or expertise. The game of tennis has changed a lot in the past 2 to 3 decades. However, the coaching methods have remained the same.

Tennis like most racquet sports has sequence of events which happen cyclically (e.g. Simple rally). Identified specific issues which matters the most for the player and prepare the players to mentally and visually face the challenges.
